Nurses set Aug. 30 as date for strike authorization vote at Baystate Franklin Medical Center
Unioned nurses at Baystate Franklin Medical Center said Thursday that they have scheduled a strike authorization vote for Aug. 30 at the 93-bed Greenfield hospital after contract negotiations stalled over the issues of wages and health insurance.
More than 200 hospital nurses represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association will vote on whether to authorize a strike. The union said the results will be disclosed some time after the balloting ends at 9 p.m. If the measure is approved, the union negotiating committee would be empowered to call a strike if the negotiations reached a dead end. Once the committee issued a notice to strike, a strike would begin in 10 days.
The hospital is part of Baystate Health, a health care system that includes Bay State Medical Center in Springfield and three other facilities in western Massachusetts.
