Áron Boros to lead new Center for Health Information and Analysis

Áron Boros has been appointed to a five-year term as executive director of the newly created Center for Health Information and Analysis.

Under the state health law passed this summer, the center will replace the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy, which Boros has led since September 2011. He previously worked for the state Medicaid program as director of federal finance and as an attorney at the Boston law firm Foley Hoag.

The center is an independent state agency charged with tracking medical spending in the state, managing the state’s health consumer website, commenting on hospital expansion applications, and maintaining a database of all insurance claims filed in the state, among other major duties outlined by the new law.

Boros was selected through a vote by the governor, the attorney general, and the state auditor.

“Áron brings valuable experience and a proven commitment to this critical role,” Governor Deval Patrick said in a press release. “This is another important step forward in the Commonwealth’s efforts to create a health care system that is as affordable as it is accessible.”

The state’s cost-containment law takes effect Nov. 5.
