Babson College has broken ground on a new dormitory.

The 200-bed, 78,000-square-foot “First-Year Residence Hall” is scheduled to open in 2015 alongside three existing Park Manor dorms to create an all-freshman quad.

The new building will also feature the Schlesinger Innovation Center, which college officials described as a “large” 24-hour living and learning space that can be used for meetings, as classrooms or for other “student life” activities.

Officials held a groundbreaking at the school’s campus in Wellesley on Thursday afternoon.

“Through its location and combination of living, learning and outdoor spaces, the new residence hall will become the crossroads of the academic and residential experiences on campus,” Babson said in a statement. “The new First Year Residence Hall will transform the residential living experience on campus.”
