Officials at Boston College said in a university-wide email Wednesday that they plan to boost their campus police patrols after two gunpoint robberies were reported nearby during the past week.

No members of the BC community were involved in either incident, both of which happened off-campus at the intersection of Reservoir Avenue and Lee Road in Newton and at 200-222 Lake St. in Brighton, the letter from campus police chief John King said.

The suspects involved in both cases have been described as two white males in their twenties, with slim builds, according to the letter.

People on and around the campus were cautioned to: walk in well-lit, well-traveled areas and avoid shortcuts through wooded areas, parking lots or alleys; walk with a friend, if possible; be vigilant to the surroundings; and to be aware of the locations of on-campus “Blue Light” emergency phones.

The police chief’s letter also reminded students they can request a security escort by calling 617-552-8888.

Suspicious activity can be reported by calling 911 or Boston College Police at 617-552-4444.

BC’s campus is about four miles west of Boston University, where a stabbing and robbery Tuesday night was the latest and most violent attack in string of street crime on and near the campus dating back to last fall.

Those incidents have prompted increased police patrols around BU and in neighboring communities amid concern from students and residents of Brookline and Boston.
