Friends of a Boston College graduate and his wife who were seriously injured in Monday’s bombings have raised more than $200,000 to help them defray medical costs.

According to the fundraising page, Patrick Downes, a BC graduate, and his wife Jessica suffered “severe leg injuries” after one of the bombs detonated at the marathon finish line.

A Facebook page for the couple is here.

Patrick, a 2005 graduate of the BC Lynch School of Education, and his wife Jessica were married last summer in Boston, the university said in a statement.

As of Thursday afternoon, the fundraising page “Help for Patrick and Jess” had generated approximately $207,000 for the couples’ medical costs.

An anonymous poster on the page wrote, “Pat, I never knew you well at school. But your reputation as a wonderful man precedes you. I pray you and Jessica will have a strong recovery, and know you will always be surrounded by people who love and care for you.”

While an undergraduate at Boston College, Downes was active in campus ministry and was recognized for his programming skills in the 2005 University Student Leadership Awards.

"When he was here, Patrick was the kind of BC student who would light up a room, who led by his presence," said Campus Minister Daniel Leahy. "He embodies what BC is all about. Patrick is a tremendous person -- as a BC undergraduate, and now as an alumnus. We wish him and Jessica all the best."
