Berklee College of Music has announced new grant programs and scholarships that will increase its financial aid by $1,000,000 to help more students and simplify the financial aid application process.

More than 1,000 students, about a quarter of the student population, will benefit from the new increases in aid.

The increases come in the form of a new Achievement Grant program that awards aid to students with institutional scholarships and grants to augment annual financial aid packages.

Students with Berklee aid who earn at least a 3.0 grade point average and demonstrate financial need may qualify for tiered increases in aid for their second, third and fourth years.

Berklee is also committing $350,000 to the Berklee Achievement Scholarship and additional scholarships and grants.

A total of $100,000 will be committed to the Berklee Achievement Scholarship for continuing students who do not have scholarships. The school is also committing $250,000 in grants next year to assist students whose families have had serious changes in their finances.

The new program is designed to create incentives to encourage students to complete their education at Berklee, the school said.
