The Hollywood Reporter recently named Emerson College and Boston University to its list of the “top 25 film schools of 2013.”

Emerson earned the No. 8 slot, beating out Loyola Marymount University and Northwestern University.

“Although Emerson’s main campus is in Boston, its presence has loomed large in Los Angeles since it became the first out-of-town college to develop a residential study and internship program here in 1986,” according to the Reporter.

Notable Emerson alums working in the film industry include the Will & Grace creator Max Mutchnik; actor Henry Winkler; and a Parks and Recreation executive producer Harris Wittels.

Boston University ranked 11th on the list, for also “breaking geographic boundaries with its Los Angeles program,” the Reporter wrote.

BU has a number of graduates in the industry, such as the Alice in Wonderland producer Joe Roth, and the Comedy Central/South Park producer Debbie Liebling.

Other nearby schools that ranked in the top 25 include Wesleyan University and the Rhode Island School of Design.
