As thousands of students return to Boston for the fall semester, colleges and universities are offering a slew of wacky and fun events. The convocation speeches probably won’t be like this one, but here are some of the best local “welcome week” activities:
-At UMass Lowell, students can participate in a glow in the dark dodgeball tournament, and a masquerade party. And comedian Amy Schumer of the Comedy Central show, “Inside Amy Schumer” will come to campus on Wednesday.
-Brandeis held a “mud party” this morning, followed by water games for “those who have already showered and/or want to clean themselves up after.” The week wraps up with a paper airplane battle on Friday.
-Several schools are hosting concerts this week. Boston University has a free concert on Sunday, featuring the pop duo “Karmin.” And next Tuesday, the local band “Three Day Threshold” will perform at Northeastern University.
-MIT will hold a mandatory freshman swim test, during which non-swimmers must sign up for a swimming class. The school requires its students to either complete the 20 minute test or a swim course.
