Shy, er, slow to warm up, kids

If shyness runs in your family, or even if it doesn't but you think your child tends toward that bent, you'll be interested in research from the University of Maryland. It shows that children who are shy likely have parents who are stressed-out. Consider, also, this friendly reminder to avoid labelling your children. Mary is not the "artistic one," and James is not the "athletic one." Mary is someone who likes to draw, and James is someone who likes to run. Similarly, your shy child is someone who is slow to warm up.
