Kosher Cool

Look for these T's with a Yiddish twist.

WHAT'S IN: With celebs like Madonna and Demi Moore touting the Kabbalah, a Jewish mystical tradition, it's no wonder that sexy T-shirts with Yiddish sayings are hotter than matzo-ball soup. "We think Yiddish is such a fun, mainstream language," says Daniella Zax, one of the three designers/sisters who created the Rabbi's Daughters line. "Even Oprah has the Chutzpah Awards." For you shiksas, every T has a tag with the definition and phonetic spelling of each word. The current favorites seem to be "shayna punim" (pretty face), "meshuggenah" (crazy girl), and "goy toy" (a plaything for non-Jewish boys). A men's version of the last one has been added by popular demand, as have T's in children's sizes and women's panties with "tush" printed on the back. Oy vey.

WHO'S WEARING THEM: Daniella Zax says Jewish women love the T's because the words remind them of their grandmas, and non-Jews think they're funny. Actresses sporting the tops hasn't hurt their popularity, either.

WHERE TO FIND THEM: Priced between $32 and $34, the kosher T's are available locally at Mint Julep, 1302 Beacon Street, Brookline, 617-232-3600. Or visit www.rabbisdaughters.com for online shopping sites.
