There are so many great style icons in the music world, are there any you find particularly inspiring? I'd say Stevie Nicks, in terms of actual physical style, Nico, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, Edith Piaf. Classic types like that. Well, except for maybe Stevie Nicks. I don't necessarily think of her as classic. Maybe classic witch? She just had such a great, unique look to her, and I do have a little witchiness in my look. I was kind of brought up on Stevie Nicks and 70s music. But generally most of my other style icons are classic. Like Marlene Dietrich.
How much does your music correlate to the look that you present on stage? My music is very ethereal and atmospheric. I do dress like that on stage quite I bit. I wear ultra-feminine dresses with lace, and flowy damsel dresses. It correlates with my music in terms of an angelic vibe.
Your music is also a little melancholy, does that also show up in your clothing ensembles? It does. I wear quite a bit of black, but I'm slowly getting away from that. I think there's something about long dresses and long hair that have this melancholy, Victorian vibe to them.
Where do you find ultra-feminine, witchy clothes in Boston? I started out wanting to be a fashion designer. I went to the Rhode Island School of Design, I ended up majoring in illustration and painting, but I've always sewn a lot. I find clothes at vintage clothing stores, even places like Savers, and alter them myself to fit my figure. I have a very hourglass figure, and they don't really make clothes like that at modern stores for that kind of look anymore. So I go to second-hand stores and find clothes that fit my style and my shape. I think I've done a good job at creating a look, because I have fans that now send me clothes.
