The early years
Many early Airstream trailers, like this one from 1935, were home-built from plans or kits, or built in the small Los Angeles factory founded by Wally Byam in 1932.
The distinctive teardrop shape was a definite bow to prevailing design cues of the 1930s, which borrowed heavily from aircraft manufacturing.
