Claire Danes, Claire don't

By Courtney Hollands

Well hello, Stylephilers! Apologies for the abrupt break in my blog posts -- I just got back from a whirlwind trip to sassy San Fran. I ate my weight in delectable dragon rolls, sipped high-roller wines, and bought some kickin' Onitsuka Tiger sneakers (yellow with navy blue, to die for). Did you miss me, mes chéries?

Sorry that my first post back is snarky, but I cannot stand idly by while usual-siren Claire Danes wears dowdy shirt dresses out on the town!

[Angela Chase is all growed up. See, no Doc Martens!]

Perhaps this is her way of publicIy stating that she's about to be a serious stage actress. (Claire's debut Broadway role will be in "Pygmalian.") But there are ways to look sophisticated and sexy at the same time -- no long hemline or uneven, seemingly dip-dyed dress needed. Danes, get thee to the nearest designer boutique tout de suite!

Two of my favorite South End stores, Motley and Motley Home, are having a big party on Thursday. Oct. 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. Sip cocktails from Chambord and shop away, kids. Everything in both stores is 25 percent off during the party, including Motley Home's selection of Jonathan Adler ceramics.

I am more excited than Britney at a Taco Bell on 99 cent gordita day. The first episode of the new season of "Project Runway" arrived in my mailbox today. Season four premieres on Bravo on Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. I'll give you a report later this week after I've had a viewing party.

The family that refuses to wear ties together, stays together

Here we go again. Has Ben Affleck's neck gotten too big for a tie? Because B.fleck won't wear one to save his life. Not even to the premiere of his own movie. Apparently, he's trained his little brother to stay away from ties as well. Here are the Brothers Affleck at the premiere of "Gone Baby Gone" last night. Listen gents, this is a Hollywood premiere. If you're going to take the trouble to wear a suit, take five more minutes out of your day and throw on a tie.

Say hello to the couture pillow

I am a complete whore when it comes to throw pillows. I have a window seat in my living room that has become a shrine to my pillow collection. I'm fairly convinced that a well-designed pillow is your living room's best friend. You can change the look of a room fairly easily, and usually for a minimum investment.

That is until now.

Designer Kevin Corn, who spent six years at Ralph Lauren designing the interior of Polo stores, has introduced a line of pillows made from vintage fabrics. These are limited edition, hand-made pillows that are produced in extremely limited quanities (four or less of each). Here's the part that stings. The price is $425 each. The pillows are available at from Corn's website.

Let's see, what to do during lunch hour this Thursday? Go to TGI Friday's again, or check out a trunk show. Hmmm. this is a toughie. I suppose the fried mac and cheese and the Oreo cake can wait until next week. Matsu is hosting a trunk show of French designer Lilith on Thursday, Oct. 11, and Friday, Oct. 12. The collection is spring/summer '08 (the clip above is fall/winter '07, but you get the idea). Matsu is at 259 Newbury Street. The spring collection is '60s influenced, with a hint of Imperial British India tossed in for good measure.
