Football and soccer players from 26 area high schools suffered 338 head injuries last fall (2011), the first time athletic departments were required to collect data under the state’s new concussion law, according to a Globe survey.

The Globe found 72 head injuries in boys’ and girls’ hockey and basketball across 44 high school sports programs that qualified for the state tournament this winter.
