Places to corral your bikes
The city has installed 10 curbside bicycle corrals that take up the space of one vehicle parking space, but allow for up to 14 cyclists to park their rides. The structures are designed to replace the need for two-wheeled commuters to lock their bikes to street signs and parking meters. The corrals will remain in place until the fall, when bicycle traffic traditionally declines. Last year, the city experimented with the parking locations on Bow Street and Elm Street, and they were a hit, said Sarah J. Spicer, senior transportation planner, in a prepared statement. “With more corrals in more key locations, the city is making good on its commitment to promote and support safe bicycle ridership as a green and healthy alternative to driving, in every neighborhood in Somerville,’’ Spicer said. The corrals are planned for Union Square, Winter Hill, Ball Square, Magoun Square, Powderhouse Circle, Davis Square, and Teele Square. - Matt Byrne![]()
