Stopping 'winter hair' before it starts
Stylists' tips for outsmarting frizz
1. Plenty of stylists will say the same thing: Stop washing your hair every day in winter. Rather, aim for every third day (every other at most), and condition every time.
2. Don’t rub wet hair, says Helena Cohen, owner of Ardan MedSpa + Salon in Wellesley. Instead, wrap it in a towel to absorb the water, and “wait until it’s at least half dry before using heat.” But first, comb a thermal protector evenly through the hair, preferably with a wooden comb, as it’s gentler than plastic.
3. Your brush matters, too. Antonio Pagano, salon director of Sassoon Salon in the Back Bay, recommends a half-round brush with a soft rubber base instead of a full-on round. “A round brush gets stuck easily, pulling and breaking hair.”![]()
