    SAVIN HILL ENTREPRENEUR’S MULTIPLE BUSINESSES

Kenneth Osherow, a successful entrepreneur in Savin Hill, takes a few moments from his work At Home Real Estate, to hug Colby the newest member of his family. Osherow owns four Savin Hill businesses.

At Home Real Estate, at 109 Savin Hill Ave., employs 14 people and services real estate clients in Savin Hill and neighboring areas. It is the first business Osherow opened when he moved to Savin Hill in 1999.

The second of Osherow’s businesses is McKenna’s Café, a bustling neighborhood meeting and breakfast place with legendary food and long lines.

“We try to work fast,” said Michelle Berganza, a 17 year old who works at McKenna’s. “But it’s like running a marathon.”

Terrell Wilson, Noah Jones, Will Barboza, and Rob Eugene (left to right) enjoy a hearty breakfast at McKenna’s. “I used to live in Savin Hill so I come here whenever I’m in town,” said Eugene. who co-owns an entertainment company, The Premier Events, with Jones.

Down the street at 107 Savin Hill Ave. is Savin Scoop, Osherow’s third business. It employs about 20 students, including (left to right) Kayla Montimes, Sharaya Simms and Ruth Pierre from Cristo Rey High School, being served here by Andrea Rossi.

Joe Conway, Osherow’s business partner at Savin Scoop, shares a laugh with Montimes, Pierre and Simms as they go back to school to work on their college applications. “You’re the best Joe,” said Simms.

As guests leave, Rossi, who has worked at Savin Scoop since it opened, goes back to making pumpkin ice cream pies. They are a hot item during the holidays,” Rossi says.

The community comes together at the meeting places Osherow has established. One happy visitor is the Rottweiler, Wally, who gets a treat from Conway on a Saturday morning at Savin Scoop.

At Savin Bar and Kitchen, Osherow said, “the food is cooked to order.” He credits his partner, Driscoll Docanto. “His passion for food and business is what makes the restaurant work.”

One member of the staff who keeps Savin Bar and Kitchen interesting is General Manager Nancy Lovewell. She juggles events planner, bar tending and bar managing. “I love my job,” said Lovewell .

It seems Osherow can’t go anywhere without being stopped by a neighbor. This neighbor stopped him in the middle of the street for a quick hello.
