Despite economy, local bookstores endure

The closing of Borders stores in the Back Bay and downtown Boston was a blow to the city’s shopping districts and to thousands of readers who regularly browsed in the stores. But the loss of the chain shops doesn’t mean Bostonians lack options for book shopping. There are more than a dozen bookstores in the city, many of them specializing in certain fields or types of books to please their discerning customers.
