Southwest Corridor
Officials began drafting plans for a new highway in 1966 to connect Interstate 95 with the center of Boston as part of an overall expressway network. The Orange Line would be relocated to the median of the highway. The plan met overwhelming public opposition.
Residents were concerned with the loss of homes, economic hardship, and negative effects a new highway would create.
