    When heading to the Fenway area this season, do what the locals do. Instead of the typical Fenway food fare, be adventurous and venture off the beaten path to some local favorites.

    Lower Depths

    Are you a beer enthusiast? Wander over to Kenmore Square, where Lower Depths has craft beers on tap and avoids the usual crowds found closer to Fenway.

    Woody’s Grill and Tap

    Walk through the Fens for pizza from a real wood oven, and watch the pizza makers bake the food for yourself. The gourmet pizzas with original flavors and avoid the more greasy options around Fenway.

    Canestaro’s Pizza

    Canestaro’s features Italian fare at reasonable prices, and has the ideal location: it’s far away enough from Fenway to avoid the fenzy, but close enough to walk over before or after a game.

    El Pelon

    The neighborhood favorite is back! After two fires forced El Pelon to close twice since 2007, the popular burrito joint reopened on Restaurant Row in 2012. It’s close to Fenway, has fast service, and is a local staple.

    Food Trucks

    Skip the Fenway franks (at least once) and opt for the trendy food truck option, where your choices range from Vietnamese pho to cupcakes.

    Before watching the game, play a board game at this English-style pub. If you’re looking for a dive bar off the beaten path, try TC’s Lounge, a local favorite.

    Cornwall’s is located at 654 Beacon St., and TC’s Lounge is located at 1 Haviland St.

    Boston Beer Works

    Avoid the Fenway location of this bar and go to the one in the other Boston sports landmark-- the TD Garden. Just don’t go during the Celtics or Bruins season.

    Sunset Grill and Tap

    Wander away from the Fenway crowds to Sunset, where you will find plenty of fans around, as well as plenty of beer (about 120 beers on tap).
