Three major fires throughout the state yesterday left an elderly Lunenburg woman dead, dozens in Boston homeless, and four Somerville businesses destroyed, officials said. Although the cause of each remain under investigation, fire officials said the crush of wintry weather - which brought wind, snow, and power outages - made battling the fires more challenging. The fire killed a pit bull, but at least 22 cats along with two birds, two dogs, and two turtles were rescued.
