Class 5011 graduates from the Boston Police Academy today, 42 new cops for streets that desperately need them. But one chair will be empty at today’s graduation in Dorchester. Kevin Plunkett, a member of the class, had to leave midway through the six-month program to deploy to the Middle East with the Navy. He’s the first police recruit in the city’s history to leave in the middle of a class. And his classmates have kept him front and center despite a 6,500-mile distance between them.
