Bobby Brown The R&B singer and songwriter Bobby Brown is also a Roxbury native. The Grammy award winner was first a part of a musical group called New Edition, but went solo in 1987. The former husband of Whitney Houston grew up in the Orchard Park housing projects-- 'the equivalent of Beirut,' he said. In February, he was in Boston to attend his mother's funeral, which took place at Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury.
