Famous figures from Roxbury

Malcolm X Though not originally from Roxbury, Malcom Little spent his most formative years in the neighborhood after first living in Michigan. ''No physical move in my life has been more pivotal or profound in its repercussions,” he wrote in his autobiography. During the 1940s, Little, who later became Malcolm X, lived at 72 Dale St. – now a historic landmark near the city park since named in his honor. In 1962, Malcolm X spoke with reporters on Intervale Street in Roxbury.

Malcolm X
