PROMOTIONAL POSTERS FOR ‘SOUTHIE RULES’ UNVEILED IN NEW YORK CITY
Southie has invaded New York City by way of telephone booth advertisements from A&E promoting the reality TV show “Southe Rules.”

The advertising folks at A&E said they took inspiration from the cast during the pilot episode of “Southie Rules.”
‘We wanted to inject that attitude and Southie way in pieces across the city,” said Meghan Kirsch, Senior Director of Brand Creative at A&E.
The posters are targetted specifically for the New York market.
“We wanted to stir up that feeling of rivalry but in a really fun way,” said Kirsch.
There are many declarations from the cast members throughout the reality show.
“Like, ‘If you’re not born in Southie, you ain’t from Southie’”—We wanted to give people a flavor of that attitude,” said Kirsch.
The idea came about internally but the TV network worked with two different agencies coming up with copy that was very New York centric.
According to a spokesman, the term “soda” was specifically chosen because people outside of Boston would not be familiar with the local term “tonic.”
There will be no national advertising campaign before the show premieres on January 29. Aside from these posters, viewers will learn about the show through social media and ads on A&E Network channels like History.
The copy, or text of the advertising campaign was checked over by a couple Boston locals.
“We ran it past my friends-- Our art director’s from South Boston,” said Kirsch. “Just to make sure we have a gut check on these.”
A few people called out the campaign for its misdiagnosis of how locals use the term “wicked.” (More of an adverb instead of an adjetive)
“Nobody flagged that,” laughed Kirsch. “I guess there are more discerning eyes on this over there.”
