Sustainable Braintree will host a Community Shred/Computer Recycling Day on April 21 with the help of sponsor Braintree Cooperative Bank. The event will take place at the bank parking lot at the corner of Washington and Franklin streets from 9 a.m. to noon. This year, the organization will partner with Proyecto Chispa, which will collect the electronic waste and recycle parts to help purchase new computers for the children of Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos Orphanages in Latin America, a group representing 3,300 children. To date, nearly 100 computers have been sent, and organizers hope the campaign not only keeps electronic waste out of the town’s trash, but also helps children break the cycle of poverty.
