Abington town clerk to cut hours

Short on staff and money, Abington Town Clerk Linda Adams says she has had no choice but to make her office short on hours. Throughout August, the town clerk’s office was closed on Fridays; the “closed’’ sign has shifted to Mondays in September. Adams says that because of budget cuts, she had lost a full-time employee and has reduced her part-time employee to 15 hours a week. Her office handles permit payments, license applications, and even police fines. “It’s been difficult to keep our window open,’’ Adams says. “We’ve even been closing during lunch.’’ But Adams says October should bring a return to the standard Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., schedule.
