Local Novartis employees await word on layoffs
Swiss drug maker targeting research positions
Cambridge employees of Swiss drug maker Novartis AG are waiting to find out how a global restructuring - including 2,000 planned job cuts in the United States and Switzerland - will affect company operations in the Boston area. Novartis will save $200 million annually by shedding jobs in research and development, clinical trial monitoring, and other fields on both sides of the Atlantic. The company said it would eliminate 1,100 positions in Switzerland and 900 in the US.
