For many VC firms invested in the local technology ecosystem, Boston remains a solid bet. Venrock, Battery Ventures, Matrix Partners, and Charles River Ventures have all funded Massachusetts companies that were sold at billion-dollar prices over the past two years. But while nine-figure deals energize local venture funding, what many investors are hoping for in Boston - to keep the area competitive with New York City and Silicon Valley - is a Web 2.0 triumph.
