Youthful play a key element in ‘Snow Queen’

A “kids in the attic’’ spirit is the driving force behind “The Snow Queen,’’ a stage adaptation of the 1845 Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that runs through Dec. 31 at the American Repertory Theater. By design, the show has a sort of homegrown feel, with minimal special effects. How, then, to create the illusion of a fantastical journey? The answer is puppets - larger-than-life creatures fashioned by actor Michael Kane, who is also a puppeteer.
