Ding Ho Comedy ClubThe Oaks then became Ding Ho, a Chinese restaurant that held open mikes for aspiring comedians.
Several famous comics got their start at "The Ding," including Steven Wright, Bobcat Goldthwait, Jimmy Tingle, and Jay Leno.
"The Boston comedy scene just exploded in the '80s and '90s, and all of a sudden comedy exploded nationally. There were clubs like the Ding Ho popping up all over the place, so you could go to other cities on a circuit. You could make money, and it was a ball," said Jimmy Tingle in "From the Heart of Cambridge."
