Louisa May AlcottThe writer of "Little Woman" was born in Pennsylvania but she grew up in Concord. She based the book on her and her sister's coming of age in New England during the Civil War.
She was a member of the writer's circle that included Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Alcott visited Emerson's library and went on nature walks with Thoreau.
She is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
