Safety improvements near Framingham State
The Department of Transportation conducted a Framingham Road Safety Audit intended to identify potential safety improvements as part of a design process for reconstruction of the Route 9 corridor.
The safety audit recommends numberous changes, including posting signs, adding a crosswalk, and improving lighting along a stretch where a Framingham State student was killed.
In December 2012, Colleen Kelly, 21, of Melrose, was hit on the highway while crossing to get to Maynard Road near the campus around 10 p.m.
The audit also recommends that the university amend its shuttle bus service to provide transportation for students to the north side of Route 9 near Maynard Road or to adjacent retail stores.
