Police arrested a 17-year-old from Malden and charged him with shooting another teen on Monday morning near Route 60 and Warren Street in the parking lot of Sun Kong Restaurant.
Witnesses said the victim had been riding his bicycle just before 10:45 a.m. when someone fired a gun from the sidewalk. City officials announced a lockdown of nearby schools until Tyrell Berberena Jr. was arrested. He was charged with armed assault to murder and possession of a high-capacity firearm. Next

Nancy Kjersgard, of Wakefield and John Stelmach, of Malden, were both eyewitnesses to the shooting. Stelmach picked up his son, Matthew, from preschool immediately after the shooting.
"I mean, I got two kids who stay with their grandparents a lot of the time . . . just five houses down from that house," said Stemach, of the home on Wyeth Street where a suspect allegedly fled. Next
According to both Stelmach and Kjersgard, the shooting victim was on this bicycle.
"Anybody could have been walking by at that point and gotten involved, you know," said Stelmach. "That's what you gotta think about." Next

One male victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with a gunshot wound. As of 1:30 p.m., the victim's condition was unknown. Next
"I was watching traffic, and I saw a group of kids," said John Stelmach, 38, a driver for Malden Taxi. "I saw one kid who was standing on the sidewalk pull out a gun and just start shooting.
