BOSTON—A Malden man charged with planning the killing of two acquaintances over the Labor Day weekend has been ordered held without bail.
Steven Andre was held after pleading not guilty to two counts of murder at his arraignment Tuesday.
Prosecutors say Andre planned the shootings of Angel Acevedo and Jenret Appleberry for up to three weeks. Their bodies were found in Appleberry's apartment in Chelsea on Labor Day morning.
Prosecutors say one of the victims may have been asleep when he was shot. Andre had been to the apartment several times.
Authorities say Andre then ransacked the apartment looking for money, and threatened to kill anyone who spoke to investigators about the slayings.
Andre's lawyer says his client maintains his innocence.
