BOSTON
Michael J. Callahan of Medford, a former member of the Governor’s Council, has died. His successor, Terrence Kennedy, said Callahan died yesterday after a battle with melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Kennedy said Callahan’s sister sent him a text message moments before he took his oath of office yesterday at the State House, telling him that his predecessor had died. Callahan announced in March that he would not seek reelection to the eight-member council after 12 years representing District 6. Kennedy, of Lynnfield, called Callahan a close friend who sought to do good works through politics. A funeral is expected to be held next week. (AP)![]()
