BOSTON—Gov. Deval Patrick is picking up a major firefighter endorsement.
The Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts called a news conference Monday in Patrick's hometown of Milton to make the announcement.
The 12,000-strong union was expected to hit the budget-balancing moves proposed by Patrick's Republican rival, Charles Baker.
The union backing adds to the corps of foot soldiers who could help the Democrat on Election Day. Yet it also highlights Patrick's connection to labor, which Baker says keeps him from backing serious budget changes.
Besides Patrick and Cahill, independent Timothy Cahill and Green-Rainbow Party candidate Jill Stein will be on the ballot on Nov. 2.![]()
