Remembering the blizzard of '78

On this date in 1978, New England was smothered with a ferocious blizzard that shut down Massachusetts for a week and inflicted lasting damage on the coast. National Archive photos from the Office of the Chief of Engineers provide a look back at one of the Northeast’s greatest storms. About 3,000 cars and 500 trucks became trapped in the snow along Route 128 during the three-day storm.
