D.J. Walsh is pretty quiet. But as the only four-year varsity player on the Needham High boys’ hockey team, he is respected as a leader by his teammates and coaches. And though the Rockets were ousted in the play-in round of the Super 8 tournament, the senior center is now focused on the Division 1 South tourney, and continuing to improve every day. Connor Murray sat in the stands at Gillette Stadium last Saturday, watching Jamie Arnao, his teammate on the Needham High hockey team, and the rest of the Rocket football squad battle Boston College High in the Division 1 Super Bowl. Just two Needham High players have earned a varsity jersey as a freshman in more than 40 years. The first? Jay Steeves, who set all sorts of records playing goal for the Rockets in the early ‘80s.
