Watertown just can't catch a break from the spotlight.
An article on the website for The Onion, a satire publication, that mentions the town in a story spoofing Taylor Swift's lengthy list of boyfriends has been seeing newfound fame as part of a year-end review series.
In the article, the writer joked that Swift began dating the boat in which Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found April 19.
The article was posted to theonion.com on April 22, but has gained newfound fame as the story became part of the publication's "Our Annual Year 2013" series, which recounts the top stories of this past year.
The story from The Onion cites a blogger "confirming" that the two are together:
“Taylor was seen cozying up to the Watertown boat over dessert at Finale last night, and we can confirm that the two are officially an item,” Hollywoodlife.com blogger Bonnie Fuller reported of the budding romance between the 23-year-old multiplatinum crooner and the bloodied, bullet-ridden watercraft, nicknaming the couple “Swiftboat.” “Fans said that Taylor nuzzled up to the boat all night, even wearing its tarp out of the restaurant and playfully kissing its hull.”
The Onion writer also joked that the pair were seen "taking a romantic cruise of the Charles River" at press time.
In real life, Watertown resident David Henneberry, the boat's owner, reportedly bought another boat with donations sent to him by strangers this fall. His previous boat, named "Slip Away," was reportedly taken by the FBI after Henneberry found Dzhokhar in his beloved craft on April 19.
