Waltham officials have cancelled school for Thursday and Friday and announced a parking ban amid a snow storm that is expected to the pound the region with up to a foot of snow.

Cars must be moved from the street into a municipal or school parking lot by 6 p.m. Anyone parking in a school lot must move their cars by 5 a.m. so plows can clear snow there, city officials said previously.

Any cars left on the street will be towed at the owner's expense, officials said.

Schools will also be closed Thursday and Friday due to the storm, officials said.

The storm is expected to dump 6 to 12 inches on the Boston area, with up to 16 inches possible on the coastline. Light snow began overnight, but the bulk of the accumulation is expected to happen Thursday night into Friday, according to meteorologists.

For more information, visit the city's website, the school district's website, or call 781-314-3855.
