Four arrested in early morning on-campus stabbing at Boston College; victim in good condition following surgery
Police have arrested and charged four people in connection with the on-campus stabbing of a Boston College senior early this morning, according to a university spokesman.
The student, Jeremiah Hegarty, is in good condition after being stabbed in the abdomen and undergoing surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, said Jack Dunn, university spokesman for Boston College.
The suspects have no connection to the college or Hegarty, Dunn said. A fifth person, the alleged stabber, fled after the incident, which happened between midnight and 2 a.m. outside apartment-style dormitories in Lower Campus in Brighton, Dunn said.
Boston College police arrested the four suspects and informed Boston Police that another had fled, Dunn said. One is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and the other three for being accessories, Dunn said.
Details such as whether drugs or alcohol were involved and a possible motive were not available early this afternoon because the investigation is ongoing, Dunn said. No details were available about the suspects either.
Hegarty is a student at the Carroll School of Management, Dunn said.
"Boston College is an exceptionally safe campus, and we view this as anomalous issue," Dunn said.
The incident comes a day after the fatal stabbing of Elhaji Malick Ndiaye, 18, in a parking lot at Regis College in Weston at 4:30 a.m. Neither Ndiaye nor a second stabbing victim, a 22-year-old friend of Ndiaye’s, was connected with the college.
