A 25-year-old man was shot several times early Thursday morning near along North Harvard Street in Allston near Harvard Stadium and the university's business campus, officials said.

Police said officers responded to a witness' 911 call at around 12:35 a.m. and found the victim near 70 N. Harvard St. with "several" gun shot wounds.

The victim, whom police did not name, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of "non-life threatening" injuries, Boston Police spokesman Officer Eddy Chrispin said Thursday afternoon.

He said while the exact number of gun shot wounds was not immediately known, one witness reported hearing four to five shots fired and another said they heard at least three shots.

Witnesses described a possible suspect - a man dressed in dark clothing who ran toward a silver sedan and drove off down N. Harvard Street before taking a right and heading west on Western Avenue, Chrispin said.

Hospital officials said they can only check on the status of a patient when they are provided with a full name.
