Cyclists gathered at the Reilly Memorial Rink this morning to embark on “Braking the Cycle,” a 3-day charity bike ride from Boston to New York City.
If you were in Cleveland Circle this morning, you may have noticed a long line of bicycles traveling on Beacon Street by the Chestnut Hill Reservoir.
That pack of cyclists – all 130 of them -- are taking part in “Braking the Cycle,” a three-day charity ride that raises money to support HIV/AIDS services of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City.
The cyclists gathered in the park area next to the Reilly Memorial Rink early this morning before embarking on their 285-mile journey.
After a brief opening ceremony (and some breakfast), the cyclists assembled at the starting line on Beacon Street. The ride officially got underway at 6:45 a.m., and the cyclists proceeded to pedal westward as their friends, supporters and volunteers cheered them on.
They are scheduled to reach New York City on Sunday. For more information, visit www.brakingthecycle.org.
