Mt. Washington Bank plans to open a branch in Allston.
It will be the South Boston-based bank’s first branch in the neighborhood and its ninth overall.
The 2,400 square-foot branch will be located at the shopping plaza along Brighton Avenue where renovations are underway to open a CVS store and drive-thru pharmacy in a space that formerly occupied by Rite-Aid.
The bank office will feature a full line of its products and services, including an Internet kiosk with free Wi-Fi access and a 24-hour ATM.
“We are looking forward to becoming part of the vibrant Allston neighborhood and believe the residents and businesses in the area will be the beneficiaries of our financial products and services,” said a statement from bank president Edward J. Merritt.
Mt. Washington Bank, founded in South Boston in 1893, runs eight other branches: three are in South Boston, two are in Dorchester and others are in Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and the South End.
In 2010, the bank merged with and became a division of East Boston Savings Bank.
