A 23-year-old man found stabbed early Saturday on a sidewalk in Allston is now in stable condition, according to Boston Police.
The man had been stabbed in the chest and was treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for injuries that had previously been deemed to be life-threatening, authorities said.
Police said he was found at about 2:20 a.m. on Saturday outside of Bravo Pizzeria, a popular shop located on Brighton Avenue near its intersection with Harvard Avenue.
Officers had responded to the area after seeing a fight several doors down from the pizza shop, officials said.
Security workers from the Tavern in the Square restaurant and bar, which is located across the street, had detained two individuals involved in the fight, according to police.
While officers were gathering information related to the fight, they were directed to the man who had been stabbed and was outside of the pizza shop.
Officers tried to talk to a group of witnesses who were with the wounded man, but the officers “were faced with a belligerent and disrespectful group,” according to a statement from police.
No weapons were found, authorities said. No arrests have been made.
The area is a key commercial stretch of the neighborhood packed with bars and restaurants frequented by local college students and other residents.
The intersection of Brighton and Harvard avenues has been the scene of other violent altercations in recent years, including two deadly stabbings within a four-month span.
The other stabbing, which happened in late Feb. 2010, led to a man being charged with first-degree murder, but a jury found that man to be not guilty of the charge during a trial this past May, according to Suffolk County District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark.
