The Jackson Mann K-8 School in Allston will hold its first annual Allston-Brighton Athletics Day at Ringer Park next week, officials said.

Throughout the morning of Monday, Nov. 19, more than 200 middle school students will participate in fitness classes, tennis clinics, basketball, flag football, soccer scrimmages and track and field events, according to an announcement.

Student-athletes from Brighton High School and the Mary Lyon K-8 School, along with volunteers from Boston University, will coach teams of middle schoolers through each activity.

The event is a collaborative effort that includes help from: the West End House Boys and Girls Club, Tenacity, Boston University, Brighton High School, The Parents and Community Build Group, Inc., The Ringer Park Partnership Group, and the Oak Square YMCA.

Organizers hope that by exposing students to programs offered at the partnering organizations, the youths will discover athletic activities that interest them and will get involved in those activities at one of the local agencies.

“There is a huge opportunity to expand what athletic programs we offer the youth in our neighborhoods. We hope that events like this will generate new interest and help us to expand our Allston-Brighton middle school and high school sports programs,” said a statement from active neighborhood resident Daniel Cuddy.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between elementary and high school sports to create a steady pipeline of homegrown student-athletes that will one day represent Allston-Brighton high schools on the playing field,” he added.
