A developer is considering building residential and retail space on recently purchased property on Cambridge Street near its intersection with Harvard Avenue in Allston.
Brookline-based developer Babak Veyssi paid $1.3 million in late January to buy the half-acre parcel at 392 Cambridge St. from the Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center, state records show.
The property comprises a small area of green space and a parking lot.
“My inclination is to propose a mixed-use project with retail on the ground floor, parking below and residential units above,” Veyssi said by phone.
He said he will meet with local neighborhood groups to get input about what might be a good fit for the property before moving forward with any plans. Veyssi said he does not yet know when he might begin drafting formal plans.
“It’s very early,” he said.
The site used to house the Washington Allston School, which opened in 1879 burned down in 1977. The city assesses the property’s worth at nearly $470,000.
The health center announced plans to sell the property last summer. The center said it would use sale proceeds to help pay for a new, $19.4-million medical building it hopes to build on state-owned property in Brighton where a State Police barracks and salt and sand maintenance facility operate.
