The following is a press release from the Gardner Pilot Academy school in Allston:
More than 100 parents, staff, partners, and supporters gathered at Harvard Business School on March 6 for the 2nd Annual “Put Your Hands Up for GPA!” event, a benefit for Gardner Pilot Academy (GPA) in Allston.
The event included presentation of the Gardner Champion Award to Lisa Moellman for her years of service to the school.
Moellman is a former associate director of campus engagement and research in schools for Harvard University’s public affairs and communications office.
She served as a founding member of the GPA governing board.
For the past eight years, she has supported the GPA after-school program, a partnership with the Greater Boston YMCA, serving as a coach and mentor to the after-school faculty.
Moellman was instrumental in shaping the Harvard Achievement Support Initiative (HASI), which evolved into the Campus Engagement and Research in Schools office.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has designated the GPA after-school program a 21st Century Community Learning Center exemplary site, and recently, awarded the program demonstration status to serve as a model for schools throughout the Commonwealth.
GPA principal Erica Herman presented the award to Moellman.
“Lisa’s countless hours of consulting and professional development have made an immeasurable impact on the after-school program at GPA – and on the children and families we serve,” said Herman. “The impact of her work has extended to our regular school day, too, and to schools across Massachusetts.”
The event, hosted by Harvard Business School, featured a musical performance by third grade students in the after-school program. The first Gardner Champion Award was presented last year to Jean Mooney, retired professor from Boston College.
