A group of local restaurateurs, including the father of the current Miss Universe, plans to open a new bar and restaurant on Cambridge Street in Allston this summer.

The yet-to-be-named establishment will have room for about 100 seats, taking over space where the popular Brazlian restaurant Café Brazil operated for nearly 30 years before closing late last year.

Peter Culpo said he, his nephew Joshua Culpo and business partners Mark Murphy and Justin Dalton-Ameen hope to open at 421 Cambridge St. as soon as this summer.

He said the new bar and restaurant will be similar to The Hill Tavern in Beacon Hill, which he and Murphy co-own.

“A place with good-tasting food. Not too expensive. And a great beer selection,” said Culpo, who also runs Woody’s Grill and Tap in the Fenway and has a partnership stake in the Parish Café restaurants in the Back Bay and the South End.

Culpo said the space is being completely renovated. He expects to hire between 15 and 20 full- and part-time workers.

Culpo who hails from Cranston, R.I., said he’s familiar with Allston and excited and optimistic about opening a restaurant in the student-filled neighborhood.

His daughter Olivia Culpo, the newly-crowned Miss Universe, was a student at nearby Boston University before she left last year during her meteoric rise in the beauty pageant world. And Culpo got to know the neighborhood when he was a student BU.

He lived in West Campus dormitories for his first two years and on Ashford Street his senior year.

“I certainly know the neighborhood very well,” he said. “It’s a little bit like coming back home.”

“It’s a vibrant neighborhood. A lot of young adults,” Culpo added. “There are a lot of people around there and it seems like a good place to go into business.”
